Group Stages

Avon Colts A

1 - 3

Honiton Town Rovers

This was a tough start for Rovers but Toby Bouganeau calmed any nerves they may have had when he cooly slotted home a penalty after Harry Wright had been bought down in the area. It was constant pressure on the Avon goal for almost the rest of the half, with Kieran Murphy, Aaron Pearse and George Hathaway all going close to adding to the lead.

Todd Lewendon put Rovers further in the lead in the second half when he latched onto Billy Reeds through ball. Avon Colts were then awarded a penalty of their own from which they gave keeper Daryl Young no chance and scored, but the two goal cushion was quickly restored when Ben Kidson went on a great run and then rounded the keeper and slotted the ball home.

Honiton Town Rovers

Rovers knew they had to get a good start if they wanted to progress in this tournament especially as there was to be just over an hour between todays two matches, and Harry Wright got them off to a dream start when he fired them into an early lead.

Ben Logan, Daniel Greenland, Cody Northcott and Connor Long all contributed to a brilliant defensive display with some crucial and well timed tackles. Billy Reed was at the heart of everything in midfield, and when Todd Lewendon put Rovers 2-0 up they began to dominate the game.

Toby Bouganeau and Harry Wright both added goals in the second half to cap an excellent display by Rovers.

Honiton Town Rovers

Rovers got to grips with this match from the off, and had quickly sailed into a 4-0 half time lead after some decisive attacking football that was a pleasure to watch. Rovers defence stood strong at every opportunity with Ben Logan, Daniel Greenland, and Connor Long all involved in some great counter attacks.

A special moment in the game was when Aaron Pearse took a free kick from just inside his own half just in from the touchline, Toby Bouganeau ran on to the ball and volleyed home from the edge of the box. Another moment was Jamie Bagge scoring his first ever Rovers goal.

Rovers then found themselves on the end of some bad tackles, however Billy Penwarden added to the Rovers threat as did Ben Kidson when they came on. Rovers run out comfortable winners with goals from ,Toby Bouganeau x4, Todd Lewendon x2, and Jamie Bagge.

So Rovers went into the Semi Final after topping their League unbeaten. The way they attacked the ball in all three games was tremendous and the attacking football was a delight to watch.

Semi Final

Aldridge YFC 1 - 1 Honiton Town Rovers
This was a very tense Semi Final with both sides giving their all, Rovers took a first half lead after Cody Northcott had put Todd Lewendon through on goal and the "pocket rocket" made no mistake and slotted the ball home.

Both teams had chances to score as the game opened up but the Rovers defence was immense throughout with Connor Long clearing off the line, Ben Logan and Aaron Pearse made some crucial tackles and Daniel Greenland was his dependable solid self and with Daryl Young between the posts, Honiton were proving to be very hard to break down.

Georgie Hathaway and Kieran Murphy played well on either flank and were involved in Rovers best attempts, but the game took another twist when Aldridge scored with just two minutes which meant the match would be decided on penalties.

Both teams should be commended on the way they each played out this very tough Semi Final, and the courage of the players who volunteered to take the penalties should also be applauded.

Honiton Town Rovers won 4-2 on pens

Rovers penalty takers were:- Todd Lewendon, Harry Wright, Toby Bouganeau, Billy Reed, and Daryl Young, well done lads.

A special mention should go to keeper Daryl Young who not only saved two penalties but even had the courage to not only take but score the winning penalty. Well done Dazza.

Final

Avon Colts B

5 - 1

Honiton Town Rovers

A game that typifies the saying "a game of two halves", a very tired and injury plagued Rovers went into this Final just over an hour after the Semi, but started very strongly and were rewarded for their efforts after Harry Wright burst through on goal and thundered the ball into the net after ten minutes.

For all their pressure though Rovers were unable to add to their lead, Aaron Pearse came close as did several other players but the ball just never really fell kindly for them, especially in the second half where Rovers conceded five goals but considering the forced changes that had to be made because of injuries, it was understandable that this was not to be Rovers day.

However the boys showed tremendous spirit and courage, the score line was a touch flattering but Avon were a very good side and nothing should be taken from their display.

Everyone that was involved should be immensely proud of their acheivements.

Squad:- Daryl Young, Ben Logan, Aaron Pearse, Daniel Greenland, Connor Long, Cody Northcott, Kieran Murphy, Billy Reed, Ben Kidson, Jamie Bagge, Georgie Hathaway, Billy Penwarden, Toby Bouganeau, Todd Lewendon, Harry Wright.

So I'm sure Steve and all the other parents will agree with me when I thank the boys, for a great weekend of football and say that we are all very proud of them. It's just a shame that the Final was not on the Sunday, as I feel that we would have beat anyone the way we played on that day.

Cheers Lads.
